Halitosis or bad breath is one of the most common reasons people go to the dentist. In most cases, bad breath originates in the mouth and an increase after the consumption of things like coffee, onion, garlic, cheese, meat and fish (among others). Bad breath also occurs after smoking or after consuming alcohol. In some cases, halitosis can be psychosomatic (all in your head), many people brushing their teeth or rinse your mouth.
In most cases bad breath can be eliminated by brushing, gargling with mouthwash and tongue scraping. However, a large percentage of people known as chronic halitosis, a more serious condition that can affect a person’s relationships and self-esteem, which can lead to depression or stress.
Some of the sources of bad breath may include:
Language – This is the most common area of natural bacteria. These bacteria can thrive in food stores and postnasal drip. That is why it is important to also brush your tongue as a part of their routine oral hygiene. Or better yet, use a tongue scraper.
The Nose – This is another important source of bad breath. In this case, is the air coming out of the nostrils, which often have an offensive odor. This may be due to a sinus infection or other objects in the nasal cavity. People with this type of bad breath can benefit from the use of a neti pot.
The stomach – this is a less common cause of halitosis, except in the case of farmers or acid reflux.
Tonsils – A very small percentage of people have small pieces of calcified matter in the amygdala that can cause bad breath.
The esophagus – If the valve between the esophagus and stomach does not close properly (such as hernia or GERD) can enter the esophagus leading to acid leakage of gas through the mouth, causing bad breath. This is a serious problem that must be treated separately.
Although no method to eliminate chronic halitosis, there are steps you can take to reduce the course, including: As mentioned above, a tongue scraper to clean the tongue. Chewing gum to help increase saliva production. A gargle with mouthwash effective. Far from deposits of food between teeth, floss regularly. Drink several glasses of water throughout the day to help eliminate toxins. And, of course, brush your teeth several times a day. Taking supplements of chlorophyll can also be useful in reducing bad breath.
